M O D E R A T O R noun
001 any substance used to slow down neutrons in nuclear reactors
002 ruler, governor, manager, director
003 one who acts as an umpire
004 someone who mediates disputes and attempts to avoid violence

The Mod Squad is a moderating team who joined forces because they hated seeing moderators who don't follow their own rules, players who run good games (and we don't mean who contribute, but ones who bully the mods into doing things their way) into the ground, allowed badly concieved, MarySue and GaryStu characters into their games and games with no little to direction.

The Mod Squad's goal is to make the gaming experience for those who choose to join our games more enjoyable and fun by creating an enviroment of high quality, where player never have to worry that rules will not be followed or enforced. WE hold ourselves to our own rules, and all decisions are made by the entire team. We read and discuss all applications that are submitted to us, and all are treated with the same level of objectivity and scrutiny. This is to ensure that not only the best players join our games...but the players who will fit the best with the existing group of writers we have are admitted. The reason our standards are so high is because our existing players force them to be. It is our responsibilty to them and their amazing ability that drives us and makes us want to have the most fun and unique games on this or any server.

Mockery: a 7th Harry Potter'twisted canon' game
mockery_anons to apply

Mockery follows the lives of all the people who have to live, work and survive in the new order that Voldemort and his minions are creating. Starting with the events of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Mockery's unique spin is that the Harry Potter canon has been 'twisted' in places to make for more unexpected revelations and interactions with characters within the game. Some of our more significant twists have been made to explain Lupin's displeasure with his wife's pregnancy, how Draco Malfoy ends up back at Hogwarts and how one student manages to get past the sanctioned Muggleborn discrimination.

Viva Las Vegas: A PB game
vlv_gossipgrl to apply

Viva Las Vegas is an old-school Celebrity-PB game. YOu create a characters, you set them in Las Vegas, you socialize and move within the game. Yeah, we know, Vegas is probably the most popular setting for PB games. But there's just so much electricity about Las Vegas, we couldn't resist.

VLV's unique twist is that it centers around a fictional 'blogosphere' sponsored by one of Vegas' newspapers. The inspiration for this came from free papers like BostonNOW and Metro who sponsor blogspots where people can meet each other and report news. Both papers even post submissions from their bloggers.

Add a Craigslist-inspired classified community, the aspect of IM interaction and people following the action "off" the blogosphere and on to the Strip and beyond, and you have the elements for a great RPG.

004::Grammar Pointers and Tips Dec. 8th, 2007 @ 08:26 pm
It's time for a grammar and spelling talk. You guys are at a slight disadvantage, here, because while one of your mods is grammar conscious, the other is a freaking Grammar Nazi. Now, neither of us are perfect - far from it! Everyone makes mistakes. However, mistakes shouldn't be rampant (unless it's in the character's nature)... especially in a post that you can edit! We aren't suggesting that you delete comments to fix errors - we'd never get done, then - nor are we suggesting that all of your posts should be 100% error free. We are just asking that you guys take some time to read before you post, and THINK about what you are writing. That in mind, I decided to give you a heads up on the:

Top Ten Ways to Give a Grammar Nazi An Aneurism )

Alright, enough of the grammar talk for today. As I said before, we don't expect perfection. We're not perfect, and even though I'm a teacher, I'm not an English teacher. We would, however, like to see posts that are as correct as possible. We love you guys... keep up the good work.

003::Spells and Dueling in the Mockery world Dec. 8th, 2007 @ 08:09 pm
There have been many essays written on 'what are spells, what is the difference between charms and hexes, the difference between hexes and jinxes'; most of these can be found at the Harry Potter Lexicon. The casting of spells and magical duels are the single largest cause of confusion and dilemmas with godmodding within the RPG world, and we hope to offer some clarification to help players with these sorts of posts.

One of the things that we all sometimes forget is that Hogwarts' School of Witchcraft and Wizardry is a school located and governed by the rules and traditions of a British school, with students from all over the United Kingdom and Ireland.. What does this mean for those of us not raised in the Commonwealth or the UK? Quite a bit. We are dealing with different slang, different rules and regulations in regards to ages of legality, morales, norms and even money and measurements.

We hope that this article will help you in your endeavours to portray realistic characters from this portion of the world!
